You can search by issue on Westlaw by the Natural Language or the Terms and Connectors search methods:

Suppose you want to determine whether a drug manufacturer can be held liable for failing to give a warning about a drug. Natural Language allows you to enter a description of your issue in plain English. To search for documents using Natural Language complete the following steps:
- On the Law School tab page, type a database identifier in the Search these databases text box and click Search.
- If you don't know the database identifier, type the description of the database in the Search these databases box and click GO. For example, type minnesota tort cases. A list of possible databases will be displayed. Check the database you want to search and click OK.
- Select Natural Language above the Search text box.
- Type your issue in Natural Language. For example, type can a drug manufacturer be held liable for failure to warn
- Click Search.
- (If you choose to use the 1,2,3, Quick Search format in the right frame of the Law School tab page, you will enter a search, check a database(s), and click GO.)
A ResultsPlus list of relevant secondary source documents is automatically displayed on the right side of the screen. ResultsPlus are a great way to expand your case or statutory research.

Suppose you are researching whether a premises owner has a duty to protect a guest from being attacked. The Terms and Connectors searching method requires you to enter a search consisting of key terms from your issue and connectors specifying the relationship between those terms. To search for documents using the Terms and Connectors search method, complete the following steps:
- On the Law School tab page, type a database identifier in the Search these databases: box and click GO. If you don't know the database identifier, type in the description of the database in the Search these databases box.
- Select Terms & Connectors above the Search box.
- Type your search in the Search text box. For example, type own*** /s protect! prevent! /s guest visit*** /s assault! attack!
- Click Search.
- (If you choose to use the 1,2,3 Quick Search format in the right frame of the Law School tab page, you will enter a search, check a database(s), and click GO.)
